USAA RealCo Chicago Property Named Building of the Year
February 27th, 2011 | by linda smit |When it comes to commercial real estate, it’s not the Oscar or the Emmy that matters. It’s the TOBY. And this year, the TOBY goes to locally based USAA Real Estate Co.
The Chicago chapter of the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) has awarded a TOBY (The Outstanding Building of the Year) award to the Federal Bureau of Investigation Regional Facility in Chicago — which was developed by USAA RealCo.
The FBI building took the TOBY in the Earth category — which recognizes buildings developed with an emphasis on sustainability. In 2008, the FBI building received a LEED Platinum rating from the U.S. Green Building Council. It was the first to receive this designation under the new Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance rating system established by the council.
“This accomplishment is not just a culmination of the efforts of everyone on our team and our valued FBI and (U.S. General Services Administration) partners, but it is a measure of our efforts to drive the business case for efficiency and sustainability,” says USAA RealCo Chairman and CEO Pat Duncan. “We continually strive to improve the financial and environmental performance of our real estate portfolio, and in so doing, drive improved comfort, lower operating costs and provide a healthier environment and community for our tenants.”
Duncan recognizes the FBI and GSA for its assistance and support during the process to improve the building’s performance.
